2021-11-17 from the editor of ~insom ------------------------------------------------------------ I did some turning on the lathe. I'm starting to feel less like a total newbie, which is a pleasant feeling. I am not "good" and I'm rarely even making things that have a purpose, but I'm less bad than before and it's all giving me a better appreciation about how things in the real world are made. The Pi400 as a Linux desktop is working _pretty_ well. It's NFS booted which is good because it's silent and most of the time it's fast (because NFS-to-SSD is still better than many SD cards) -- but when I saturate the network and the NFS process hangs the whole machine becomes unresponsive -- even down to the mouse going sluggish. Maybe GBe shares USB on the Pi, still? I know it used to in the 10/100 days. I am obsessionless right now -- I don't really want to do anything, even though I ironically have time at the moment. I did dig out my Circuit and noodle with some music this evening, which was nice. I'm also reading the new Neal Stephenson, which is a total downer so far, but I do love his writing -- post 2000, at least.
