Alright, folks, like many people I'm having a hard time getting much of anything done these days (including regular housekeeping like dishes -- the pile slowly grows...) so I figured I'd spend the time to write up everything I have on my plate. # COMPUTERS + Tandy 1000 I recently got a working ethernet card for my Tandy 1000TX! It's been fun, and it's what I'm using right now to type this stuff up. I'm still playing around with terminal emulators, but I have a fairly decent setup. I can shell into my raspberry pi to access tildes, use tmux to have multiple screens (a dedicated one for IRC, for instance), and now I can actually load most of gopherspace without timing out. Goal is to use this thing more, spend less time in WWW timesinks, spend more time talking with friends and exploring BBSes. + repairs My Tandy 102 quit in the last few months. Maybe I let the backup battery die, but I was too scared to let it charge for a few hours in case it's actually failed capacitors. So, I need to buy a recap kit for that I sent my Amiga 1200 out to Acill[1] to have him recap it for me. It's been a few years now since I really played on my Amigas, so I should get back into the swing of that. I ordered a 10-pack of CR2032 batteries, a gamebit screwdriver, and a rechargeable ML2032 to replace my SegaCD's battery. None of those actually need replacements yet, but I'm ready for when they do. I've not ordered it yet, but I'll also be ordering Tim Worthington's N64 RGB upgrade, so that I can use it with my OSSC to upscale it to HDMI. This will be the LAST hobby purchase I make for a while! + job? I've warmed up to the idea of working in the IT field this past year, and want to sign up for a Networking Management program in the fall. I also want to find the time to start learning some stuff on my own, since I have all the free time in the world right now. # READING + book reviews it's been a while since I've done write-ups about the books I read. I got a little self conscious about my comments, and I went through a string of books that weren't the kind I typically included in my list. Plus, I mainly read before bed and it's hard for me to remember details since I've been getting worse sleep lately. + Dune I also want to start my magnum opus analysis of Frank Herbert's Dune. First step is a full readthrough of the series, taking preliminary notes on themes and other points of interest, so that I can map out my findings, do research, and then a deeper read through. So, I want to start reading during the day, when I have better mental faculties and can sit down with a notebook or a laptop to write on. # HOUSEKEEPING + daily I wake up around 8am, have breakfast and relax on the small web for an hour or two, have lunch, and then I realize it's 7:30pm. It's hard to find where the time goes, but I suspect that my living space makes it hard to do anything outside of my now-regular (unhealthy) routine. If you struggle with executive dysfunction then you understand how 24/7 stay-at-home life makes it even harder to keep your home clean, etc. It's hard to sit down and read a book, when the space where I should be sitting has lots of clutter. I made some good headway last week by clearing out a pile of boxes in my computer room, and I need to remember to take care of myself so that I can channel that energy again in other parts of my house So, I need to take general care of my home so that each time I do something, I don't have to also deal with the mess I left from last time. + reminders I think a good technique may be to tape notecard reminders around the home, reminding me of my various chores and some good affirmations. I've hoped to use things like app reminders, but those... are just techno cognitive clutter. You see yet another push notification, you ignore it and move on +plants Plants are good! I considered building a raised garden bed in my yard, but I honestly don't even know if I'll stay at this house through the end of the year. Explanations on that on my various phlogs. Instead I want to do more container gardening. I need to obtain seeds/sprouts, and good dirt. In the mean time, I've been saving the bases of my spring onions and transplanting them into a pot full of soil I had to spare. I use spring onions in most of my dishes and they're incredibly easy to regrow, so that's a good start and something to be proud of :) # MUSIC + guitar I pulled my guitar out of storage and want to start playing again. There are a couple of songs I wrote in my early 20s that I never recorded, I'd like to get good enough again to record a new EP from that time period.
