April 8th, Morning (Not posted until the 14th 'cause life) Weather's starting to get nice, and it's starting to feel like spring. which clashes rather dramatically with everything in the news--1,900 coronavirus deaths reported in the US yesterday, for example. Went outside for thirty minutes yesterday evening, with the roommate. Just in the backyard, but it was the first extended time either of us had spent outside the house in about two weeks. They pruned a bush; I dethatched part of the lawn. We'd have stayed out there longer, but A, it felt kinda weird being Outside, and B, our neighbor was working out in his backyard while blaring some of the worst rap Spotify has to offer, so we scooted back to the safety of isolation toot sweet. That being said, I... left the property, this morning, and went to a local grocery store. I didn't entirely want to, but my roommate was fairly emphatic that we should supplement our supplies with, say... some chicken. So I went and got chicken, and some veggies, and some other stuff, and returned, probably safely, for another couple weeks of isolation. The store, a latino mercado, wasn't very busy, but it was very picked over. The carniceria had plenty to choose from, though. Other than that, not a lot has been going on. Still cooking and baking with great regularity. I've almost run out of normal baking yeast for making bread with, and can't find more anywhere. I was afraid I was going to have to make and maintain a bowl of starter, go really old-school, but Amazon a few weeks ago still had distiller's dry yeast, so I got a pound of that. Turns out that yes, Virginia, you can make bread with distiller's yeast (and probably brewer's yeast), and it'll work just fine and not taste weird or anything. Work continues to be kind of brutal. Traffic is up massively, presumably because everyone everywhere is out of school due to the pandemic. And the corporate bean-counters are incredibly reluctant to allow more resources to be deployed. It's "impossible" to spin up more instances outside the holiday season, lkosov. Don't bother asking again. So I'm kept busy trying to contain twenty metaphorical tons of traffic in ten tons of servers, whoo.
