I'll echo what is an increasingly common intro to a gopher post: LTNP (long time, no phlog). With a new baby in the house and two older kids and other family members that all deserve attention, I've struggled to find time to even read gopher. And man am I sleep deprived right now... Some things I'm working on, albeit in very small fits and starts scattered across my sparse free time: * Continuing to push a LUG at my local makerspace. One current group project is to build a DIY version of the piratebox [1] and deploy it in the library where the makerspace is located. * Several collaborative projects on rawtext.club. One (which I haven't had my *own* hands on for some time) is a refactoring of linkulator, making it run on Unix Domain Sockets rather than its previous use of a setuid binary wrapper that calls a bash script. Another is an email inbox monitor that parses incoming mail and responds in variably programmed ways. And another is "GitBBS", written by other rawtext.club members, which provides a basic flat-file bbs functionality powered by git clone/fetch/pull commands. * I still have a gravity battery powered Raspberry Pi project on the back burner. But given all the commotion at home, I just don't have the time or space to work on the next physical construction phase. I'll pick this project back up when time allows. * And I just switched my personal laptop from Ubuntu to Arch, so I'm learning the ins and outs of Arch system administration. This is not much of a "project" but still fun. * I've also been spending more time than I should worrying about the state of politics in the U.S.. Mainstream media has so thoroughly crippled popular discourse that this next election seems entirely unlikely to address the major societal problems for which a unified government response is truly needed. I want to create a web tool that tracks topics on the front page of mainstream news sites and allows users to visualize the gaps or areas of overemphasis in each one. Anyone want to team up with me on this? It would be like another layer on top of tfurrows' NotFox website [2] * Despite my sleep deprivation, or maybe because of it, I've been doing a lot of exercising. My two antidotes to lack of sleep are (1) drinking tons of water and (2) exercising. Luckily my office gym is one floor down from my office so I run down there whenever I have 30+ minutes free. (EDIT: Oops, I forgot to mention coffee.) * And, I've been paying more attention to the neat cross-over of people who are both interested in pubnixes and ham radio. I've seen some great intro material by jboverf [3] of circumlunar.space and kraptv from skylab.org. I've also enjoyed the ham posts from shane of ascendingcreations.com [4]. I certainly do not have time for ham right now, but I'll keep paying attention so that when the time is right, I'll be fluent enough to dip my toes in the water.
