Reflecting on truth... ------------------------- Fri 23rd Nov 2018 /cpj Reading krixano's latest phlog this morning: IMO, the truth is not something that someone can definitively know. They only *interpret* the truth. This interpretation is not the truth itself, it's just an interpretation. So, there is a truth and a fact, but we can't definitively know it - all we can do is collect all the evidence we have and make our interpretation on that. [...] It's that we can't *definitively* know the truth.[1] As the great philosopher, Obi Wan Kenobi once said in the philosophical epic _The Return of the Jedi_, "[...] what I told you was true... from a certain point of view". In explanation, he added, "[...] you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view". As a professional truth-keeper and storyteller, this is all true and good at the same time. History is a tile mosaic, a patchwork of stories, all from different points of view, each more or less truer than the others, but all true in their own right, from their own point of view. I would say then, that truth is what we know right now. Of course, none of this makes it necessarily right. Right is never right in the absolute sense or even in the true sense, for even some 'rightness's' aren't true. But we need them nonetheless. Took today off. Needed a day to acknowledge the coming of winter (-7C today), and to just putter after a busy October. This is not to say that I won't work on some work projects, but at least not officially. Still finding weirdness from time to time after the Mojave upgrade a couple of weeks ago. (Like to wait for the bleeding to stop first.) Most are integrations that aren't quite working *perfectly* to spec anymore, but nothing that cannot be overcome. One of my favourites is Übersicht[2] which "lets you run system commands and display their output on your desktop in little [...] widgets". Some of the desktop magic needs tweaking from time to time. Peace out, all. [1] gopher://circumlunar.space:70/0/~krixano/phlog/112318_The_Truth.txt [2] http://tracesof.net/uebersicht/
