Life is what happens when you're making other plans --------------------------------------------------- Mon 18th Jan 2021 /cpj Well the last year really was a dumpster fire, wasn't it? With the vaccine on the way (delayed though it is in Canada), hope lies on the horizon, provided we can get enough people to take it. I would really like to get back to a semblance of the things I enjoyed -- the things that brought me pleasure, and enjoy them with friends and family. The last year has been productive, however, in that I was able to provide service and leadership, both to the vulnerable and to those who looked to me for direction. I started circling back to the small internet at the tail end of 2020, as I realized that my work-life balance was becoming work-life blending. I had been spending my downtime throughout the year at the commandline, mostly puttering with projects that I had been taken away from by things outside. Things *inside*, by necessity, were needed in a world where the outside was unknown. Not surprising, for me anyway, was my interest in horological tools. Professionally, I spend a lot of time thinking about time -- its passage -- and the effect of that passage on people, structures, networks, and the progress of the world in general. It was nice to see that Gemini has taken off -- both in terms of the protocol itself, the tools (client and server) that have emerged (in all flavours -- commandline, GUI, X, etc.), and in terms of the ease by which content creation is engendered. In the manner of a micro-nix Jedi, I have constructed my own site -- you can find both the gopher and Gemini versions at gopher://kaun.ca and gemini://kaun.ca, respectfully. The gopher site remains semi-built from its inception in 2018, though I know now (much more clearly) what I want to put there. I moved house in late 2019, and this project fell by the wayside, as I dealt with more pressing matters. But with COVID, all we have is time, and nothing seems pressing. It's time for matters. Be well.
