2020-07-22 // cobbled together thoughts, pt. 2 (re: xiled) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello, ports 70 and 1965! Not too much goin' on today! Busy day at work, but I got a lot done and that was cool. Got tugged in three directions, did the things, same old same old. Hi xiled! Saw your reply [0]! Thanks for writing back; it's always good to be mindful about what you're doing on the 'net. I feel like it's a bit like the difference between being addicted to, say, to alcohol, and enjoying a beverage every now and again. At least, maybe that's just how it is for me. Less doomscrolling has an appreciable effect on my sense of wellbeing! Walking with my friend J. was pretty fun yesterday. It's hot as FUCK now that summer is in full effect, but getting sunlight makes me happy. :) Plus, catching up, hanging out, and just yacking away. My disposable face mask got pretty schweaty & ripe at the end and I was DEFINITELY glad to have it off afterwards. Last night, I had a bit of fun reworking my gopher/gemini site banner. It was fun to doodle around a little 8008-looking microprocessor [1]. The doodle appears correctly in the few gemini clients and proxies I tried, thanks to the triple-backtick preformatting sequence. Put a little signature on the die's cap, though. :) Lich's post, "How and why I (attempt to) use Links as main browser" [2] hit Lobste.rs today [3]. The comments were... well... let's just say that the text-based web may not be for everyone. Do you ever hit that evening commute and just feel *chill* on the way home? It feels hella good and I'm here for it. I still haven't dug up my phlog backups, but I had a quasi-static site generator going on with a Perl script that made posting to my phlog a bit easier. I totally just recorded a vim macro [4] that does basically the same thing by hitting '@p'. Dang, I love me some vim. I need to dig up that Raspberry Pi Zero W that has my phlog backups, though! I mean, I know where it *is*, but I forgot to put my new OpenBSD install's public SSH key in its authorized_keys soooooo... Last thought for now: HOLY CRAP, Baldur's Gate on the Nintendo Switch is stupid good. I'm *definitely* gonna give Planescape: Torment a go on it after I finish the two Baldur's Gates. Be well, sundogs! It's just too bad I don't have any whizz-bang CSS or JavaScript on here to spruce up this text file... :^) kvothe@SDF.ORG [0]: gopher://sdf.org:70/1/users/xiled/phlog/2020/20200722_kvothe [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_8008 [2]: gopher://dataswamp.org:70/0/~lich/musings/links-browser.md [3]: https://lobste.rs/s/stzewa/how_why_i_attempt_use_links_as_main_browser [4]: https://alldrops.info/posts/vim-drops/2018-05-02_vim-macros-create-your-own-automations/
