Citizen GSX-130 Dot Matrix Printer [12/27/2017] I purchased a Citizen GSX-130 24-pin Dot Matrix printer from a thrift store a few months back, but haven't had the time to test it- well, I chose not to test it- until now. I remember having a 9-pin back in the early 90's and thinking that a 24-pin would be so awesome... Today I connected this thing up to my 8088 (was already on the 8088 for other things, so it was a perfect time.) The printer is in great shape, and includes the single- sheet feeder, for paper without the tractor feed holes. I dropped in a piece of modern laser printer paper, and the citizen pulled it in and aligned it. Much nicer than what I remember. With the "online" light now on, I was able to type up a quick document in Word 5.5 for DOS. It included variable font sizes, bolds, italics, and underlines. I printed using the "IBM Graphics Printer" driver, which I had previously installed; Word might have a better driver, but that was loaded already. Font sizes seemed to work, as did underlined text; but bold came out as underlined, italic was simply normal text. Still, the print speed and quality were both great, especially for a printer that has been sitting around for who knows how long. Now I just need to get a bigger desk, so this printer can sit next to the 8088... One other thing that was cool... I found the manual for this printer online, and noted that it has some dip-switch settings under a panel, along with a method for adding a serial port interface. This is exciting to me, since it makes the possibility of using this thing with a homebrew z80 more of a reality in the future. I found the interface on ebay for $30, maybe a late Christmas present to myself. Overall a good thrift store find.
