Measuring cups (circumlunar.space), 12/06/2019 ------------------------------------------------------------ Hey, global gopher crowd, do you folks do the whole measuring cup[1] thing? I have this perception that Europeans weigh every ingredient they're going to cook with. I have no notion of how others outside of Europe and the US might do things, but I am curious. We have several sets of measuring cups. One of those sets is different from all the others, in their shape. They look something like this: --------------| \ |--| \ | \ | --------- For the visually impaired, I apologize for wrecking your screen readers: these cups are angled in the front so as to appear like a scoop rather than just a cup. They're made of clear plastic, and there are screen-printed lines on the front/angled side. I hate these measuring cups. First of all, they're too large to fit into our bulk food containers (well, the ones that we pour the larger containers into, the small ones we keep in the kitchen), so you have to get *another* cup out to fill these measuring cups. Second, it's difficult visually to make sure you're holding it level when filling it with liquid. The shapes and angles are such that you don't have reliable visual cues that you get from a normal circular cup shape. You pretty much *have* to set it down on a level surface. Thankfully, they're junk. I believe Pampered Chef makes them. The screen printing is fading (the screen printing on our decade+ old Pyrex is fine!), and soon they'll be unusable, except as a scoop that is in fact too large for the only containers we'd want to scoop from. And that concludes this useless post. Still, I'd love to know if everyone uses measuring cups or not- I'm not really sure why it matters, but I am curious.
