I need to buy a lawn mower. For years, I've wanted to use a reel mower, manual. Something about it appeals to me- several things about it I guess. Since I have an opportunity and a reason, I think I'm going to try one out. Tomorrow, perhaps, I'll go see if anyone sells them locally. There are a few obscure hardware stores that just might, and the "big box" stores may as well, I don't really know. If that fails me, there's always Amazon. It's a different subject, I guess, but I have two pocket knives that I use regularly. While it's not necessary, I enjoy sharpening them frequently, generally after 1-3 uses. I don't sit there grinding them down, but I do wipe them over a diamond stone a few times to make sure the edge is good. One of the things that excites me about a reel mower- and this may be idiotic- is that I will get to keep it sharp. I guess I could do that with an electric or gas rotary cutter, but with a reel mower it's different. Now if I only enjoyed lawns, that would make it even nicer. But the lawn is there, like it or not, in the house we're trying to buy, and there's no reason to let it go to pot. In fact, there are several reasons to make sure it stays trimmed (bugs, bugs, and bugs.)
