Over the last few days, I've been working on setting up an 
XMPP server. I wrote to solderpunk about it, and it will be 
added to the circumlunar-verse as xmpp.circumlunar.space.

Accounts will be made available to all shell users at the 
zaibatsu and the republic. This is a regular XMPP server, so 
you can communicate with anyone with an XMPP/Jabber account 
anywhere. But the server will also provide some unique 
features: your account will come with a list of 
circumlunar.space users and a chatroom available only to 
members of the circumlunar.space community.

I think -- but I'm not sure yet -- that we'll have members 
request accounts via the internal mail.

I've been following everyone's adventures closely: tfurrows 
and the Handera, Jynx and the mysterious mp3 player, 
slugmax's expanding republic, and a whole lot of N900 stuff 
by xiled. I wanted one, didn't get it because of the weird 
space bar placement, then bought a BlackBerry Passport with 
weird space bar placement. Go figure.

As a gadgeteer, I have to say that I love gopherspace. :)
