Fire Update: ============ There's been more smoke again for the last few days, but rain is in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. The 12mm of rain we had last Tuesday was the most we'd had all year. Some parts of the Bush Creek fire got over 20mm, so that was good. On the other hand, a typical summer used to bring 3 or 4 really hard rainfalls, which doesn't seem to be happening any more. Solderpunk mentioned in his latest phlog post that he has started worrying about summer in advance. gopher://zaibatsu.circumlunar.space/0/~solderpunk/phlog/talking-about-the-weather.txt I dread it. Every year seems to bring intense heat, widespread wildfires, and thick smoke. One of my friends at work showed me a website run by NASA that shows exactly where the fires are actively burning: https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/usfs/map/ If you zoom in, you'll see that you can get very granular detail. There's information for other parts of the world here: https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/ Typewriter OCD: =============== I've buried myself in typewriter triviata for the last few days. There is an active typewriter community online and their kindness and decorum is nice to see. Some of the typewriter bloggers have feeds of each other's posts, like the webrings of old. Here are a few great sites to check out: The Typewriter Database https://typewriterdatabase.com/ Welcome to the Typosphere http://typosphere.blogspot.com/ (look for the blog list at the bottom of the page and click on "show all" to get a Bongusta-like/Antenna-like feed) Typewriter Talk (a forum) https://typewriter.boardhost.com/ Ted Munk's Blog http://munk.org/typecast/ Munk runs the Typewriter Database and has also produced a series of typewriter repair manuals.
