# Resolution Failures // 21-2-12

So we have passed 1/9 of a new year, this is my first entry
here for 2021, and I have failed magnificently in advancing my
projects during 2020. But other than that, it was not bad.

We were lucky in that no relative, friend or closer
acquaintance suffered physically from COVID-19, although
the financial and social impacts were and remain noticeable.
My core family and I are doing fine, and I'm very grateful.

We've been recently in the mountains for some skiing; in a hotel,
not a holiday flat, because we did not want to care about the
whole cooking-household-etc stuff. It was rather expensive, but
worth it, with wellness/spa, excellent food, vicinity to the
skiing area, and lots of snow. I am fully aware this was a big
luxury which especially in these days only a small fraction of
mankind can afford...
Our kids took skiing lessons, and to our surprise they liked it
even when the weather was really bad (rain up to 2000 m ASL!),
and so we did not have to feel remorse for sending them out. ^-^
Now we're back since about ten days, and it looks like the safety
precautions by the hotel and the transportation services were
successful in preventing us from catching COVID-19.

Our parents have started getting vaccination, which relieves some
of the emotional stress. We're on waiting list, not being high-
risk individuals. And after the week-end, school will start again,
where more testing is expected to regularly take place. We'll see.

My coding in 2020 was negligible, except for work, where I've been
occupied by about 1/6 of my work time by [NEMO][1] (Python&Django).
I still hate Python, but I'm glad I opted for using NEMO as our lab
management system -- otherwise I'd never have set foot into Python
territory, and it is unfortunately one of the most widely available
languages now, if you want to have your stuff running on platforms
with Linux, BSD, Android, iOS, or Windows, and having it interpreted
not compiled.
