Celebrating an Occasion on LinkedIn

I'm getting tired of those posts I see posted by my disconnected
connections. They celebrate an occasion such as getting promoted,
and I am invited to say "congrats".
Why should I? 
Do I see anything from their achievements?
Do they celebrate the occasions with me?

Such posts reminds me of popular t-shirts from the past with the
writing:

  Some idiot went all the way to London
  and all I got is this lousy t-shirt
