Civilized To Death ================== I remember that meeting that was held in my apartment some years ago. Some participants could not just thank me for the hospitality, and shouted every now and then because my air conditionar was not functioning to their satisfaction. Now, when powerful air conditioners are available, everyone is expected to have one at home, and you better add maintenance to your expenses. I started thainking that technological progress just complicates our lives. A couple of weeks ago a book named "Civilized To Death" by Christoper Ryan found me on scribd.com. Yep, I feel really civilized to death, and especially when people expect me to buy a smart-phone and install some proprietary chat application in order to communicate because we live in the 21st century. To summarize the book in a sentence, the book is about the hunters-gatherers' way of life compared to that of civilized people. It seems that the so-called primitive tribal egalitarian way of life is superior to that of ours in which one needs to apply for a job in order to make a living. Better have one for which you need to submit a CV or Resume having earned a degree. It also seems that we have the doctors but they have the health. So, ignorance is really a bliss.
