A Little Research on Scarborough Fair ===================================== Yesterday, I decided to perform a little research on Scarborough Fair, that is reading the Wikipedia entry about it. Why do such a thing? Well, I'd listened to Puccini's Nessun Dorma from his opera Turandot. I like Si, Mi Chiamano Mimi from La Boheme, and it reminds me of Don't Cry for Me, Argentina. So, I wanted to listen to that song, too. I found on YouTube that Sarah Brightman performs it. Later, I found her cover version for Scarborough Fair, a famous song by Simon and Garfunkel. That reminded me of a question I had found on Quora: "What cover versions of songs are better than the original one?". Since Scarborough Fair is a traditional English ballad, it is a bit difficult to determine what the term "original version" means here. So, I ducked[1] it, and found in Wikipedia that the first recorded version using Simon and Garfunkel's melody was performed by Audrey Coppard in 1956. Bingo! I found the original version based on both lyrics and melody. And Sarah Brightman's performance is by far better than Audrey Coppard's. So, I can publish it as an answer to the question.
