Nextcloud 2021-05-02 20:15 by zlg It's come to my attention that Nextcloud recently dropped Windows 7 support in their client, as of 3.2 stable. I couldn't find information on why; it doesn't appear to *need* any Windows 10-exclusive features. My guess is they just wanted to simplify their build system or something. Would be nice to have build instructions for the Win7 build going forward at least, but limited support is just the modern way it seems. We've learned nothing about backwards compatibility. I'm beginning to consider other WebDAV solutions; ones that won't change and break compatibility so often. How hard is it to leave something alone once it works? If you have any recommendations, hit me up. The upgrade cycle for the server side is a PITA as well, so software that creates less friction between me and my files/contacts/calendar is a winner. I may have more to share some other time but this was frustrating enough to bring up here. Who totally drops support for a client that was working fine and in maintenance mode? Nextcloud does, apparently. (For what it's worth, v3.1.3 is the last Win7-supported version of the client.) -z
