It has decent compression although piston and rings show signs of hard use. I don't know what was in the tank, it sure didn't look or smell like anything that would burn in a saw. Carb is in surprisingly good shape so it got a kit, fuel line and a filter, that carb was a bit of a bugger to install. It will start and run for a minute on choke, I suspect the crank seals are shot. Going back on the shelf for the time being, too many more pressing tasks. Next project is a Super 2 which will likely wait until winter. #Post#: 58477-------------------------------------------------- Re: Whats on your bench today By: Eccentric Date: June 3, 2015, 1:53 pm --------------------------------------------------------- If it's a regular manual oiler only XL-12 (no auto oiler pump, and has the oil fill at the rear of the saw) then it uses SKF 6119 or National/Timken 353747 seals on both sides. Easy to get from an auto parts or bearing house. Auto oiler versions (AND those manual-only saws with the oil fill up by the top handlebar bracket) use a proprietary seal (Homelite 58308) on the PTO side. #Post#: 59367-------------------------------------------------- Re: Whats on your bench today By: dutchsawdoctor Date: July 8, 2015, 2:52 pm --------------------------------------------------------- the solo twin is back on the bench >:( one cilinder wont pic up, it only wont to pic up at higher rev. but it has spark all the way spark plug net 225 from Beru both cilinder puls 130 psi, gone split the crank case to see whats went wrong there, owner had it overhauld with new seals, but lots off screws i found where lose :o Saul #Post#: 60858-------------------------------------------------- Re: Whats on your bench today By: fisaw Date: August 23, 2015, 12:22 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Lightweight " low hour" trimmer , non-running / engine will start only choke on and then run for a short period of time. = fuel lines rotted. From my experience you have an air leak or carb trouble. For air leak look at the missing back cover? #Post#: 60870-------------------------------------------------- Re: Whats on your bench today By: 3000 FPS Date: August 23, 2015, 8:52 pm --------------------------------------------------------- [quote author=660magnum link=topic=1732.msg60866#msg60866 date=1440373245] I have had 6 of these. That is just a big hole looking at the crank shaft. #Post#: 60872-------------------------------------------------- Re: Whats on your bench today By: 660magnum Date: August 23, 2015, 9:21 pm --------------------------------------------------------- There's a big black plastic cup that fits in the rear of the crankcase for crankcase pressure integrity. It is not in the picture? There a black metal ring that fits over the plastic cover to assure it seals all around the crankcase. This cover also supports the gas tank. These engines were noted for the crank pin working out and rubbing a hole in the black plastic cover. #Post#: 60873-------------------------------------------------- Re: Whats on your bench today By: aclarke Date: August 23, 2015, 10:42 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Two stroke philbert? #Post#: 60968-------------------------------------------------- Re: Whats on your bench today By: fisaw Date: August 26, 2015, 3:39 pm --------------------------------------------------------- The trimmer starts and runs like new, or maybe a little bit better. Need to order a starter pawl and some 80 micron screen .It seems the flocked clip on style filters for these old duffers are rare as hens tooth, thus the screen . Working 7-12s it's next to impossible to find the time to wrench on saws . ***************************************************** (DIR) Previous Page (DIR) Next Page
