I'll try and find an online filter. Have issues with the dish
washer as well. Had to pull it apart completely and cleanable
the orifices. The county I live in habe a big Diatomaceous earth
mine and that's what is used as the purification medium for
municipal water. The fines make it into the water supply and
that's a big contributor for sediment...

Got 11 years out if my last heater, replaced it 6 months ago.
Drained water and to my dismay the thing was still brutally
       heavy with sediment/deposits.

My brother said he has had to put in 3 in the last 15-20 years.
I just checked my A.O. Smith one in basement as I was changing
furnace filter and it was put there in 1995. The date is on the
       tank when installed.

Talking about sediments. We have well water. Used to get some
black looking little very tiny hard rock type things that would
clog my washer plastic inlet filter and the metal screens in the
       faucets.
All better since putting in a whole house filter.

I also learned with the type of well water we had, using carbon
steel elements would only last 3-5 months but cost $5 each.
Switched to stainless steel and they have been in there 19 years
       and cost $25 each.
Guess what I will use from now on. ;)

This one hopefully will last the rest of the time we live here.

I get about 7 years out of a water heater and about the same on
       a water softener .

Back to saws. ;D I gave the old IEL HC a snort of gas, it
actually fired and idled for a couple of seconds. Took a little
dome scratching to figure out how to get at the carb. I had to
remove the wrap handle in order to get the tank off. Then
disconnect the oiler linkage so the whole rear handle assembly
would separate. There are two countersunk screws going in from
the back that have to come out before the carb can be removed.
An interesting design to say the least. The diaphragms were hard
but surprisingly the body is good condition. Tillotson does not
list it but found the DG-5HL kit will work.

That is pretty cool. You did not have to mess with points
       then.

I had to laugh. The old girl is missing a few items , the
filter/shutoff assembly being the most notable, so I went
scrounging at my friendly neighborhood saw dealer's scrap pile.
Lo and behold I have another almost complete HC for parts. ;D I
hope to have it barking tomorrow. This is fun.

Had a little poulan (havent opened poulan case) dropped off
today. Guy brought it in from a deer camp and said had a
local professional dealer check it over and couldnt get it to
       start either.
       I like the challenge. ;D ;)
Man I will laugh if this was something so simple to see.
