[quote author=3000 FPS link=topic=1732.msg77696#msg77696
date=1497138077]---I have a few questions.
1) The RPM's you chose is 10,000 rpm. Is that based on what
the saw will turn in the wood or with out a load with bar and
chain on.
2) What gauge sheet metal are you using to build the pipe.
3) Are you gas welding the Pipe together.
Thank you 3000FPS for having interest on this.
(1)
I previously posted two ways for the trial designing, one for
9600 and the other for 10000rpm,
[quote author=chy_farm link=topic=1732.msg77690#msg77690
date=1497048560]
E.g. I put below factors;
Velocity of Rotation : 9600 rpm
Exhaust Gas Temperature : 653 degrees K ( equivalent to 380
degrees Celsius)
I chose the first design for this, so the rotation will be 9600
when this pipe exerts its maximum effect to the exhaust gas.
According to Mike's site,
Chainsaw Collectors Corner, this series of McCulloch show their
spark timing as 26 degrees in advance. To my understanding this
means their maximum rotation speed can be limited to not more
than 10000, since this timing makes the motor unable to release
its detonation heat outside of the cylinder chamber. This
assumption leads me to set the maximum velocity of rotation to
9600. So as an answer to this I would say yes it's should be the
optimized speed and power of the saw running in wood.
Calculation tells but I am not very sure until I try her in some
wood, lol.
(2)
The gauge for sheet metal in this area is given by metric
system, so the thickness I use for pipes are 0.5mm and 0.8mm for
the body of pipe, sometimes 1.0mm for holder/stay attached to
it. The quality is they call High Tension Steel Sheet, mostly
for car body.
This sheet with 0.5mm thick is easy to use, you may easily roll
them to pipes and corns with hands, also with hammers sometimes.
Incidentally I use a simple roll bender for my pipe project,
which is also my hand-made.
(3)
Yes for this project. But for the latest project I did for Echo
Twin, I made them separate. The latter half of the pipe or the
reflector part can be removed at the center joint. See a pic
here.

It was a nice Sunday today, fine 23degrees Celsius and 35%
moisture.
Did some more fabrication this afternoon.

That's a beautiful project saw you're building Chy!!
If McBob saw that he would be wishing he could comment on it
here.

Good morning and thanks HolmenTree, you are exactly right, yes
he shot me a video on Facebook, see this a fun thing to see.

[Designing a reflector]
In the same manner I did in previous case, Echo Twin, drew lines
on a sheet metal. Assembled and welded.
A pressure test was given but unfortunately some holes were
found on the seam lines.

Looks good Chy. Now for the performance side of it.

Thanks 3000 FPS, now I am pondering how to make a performance
test without a log that fits to her power, lol. You may not
believe this but it is true though here. I used to have a nice
farm here and had some twenty year old pine trees until I
terminated it four years ago. Nice reminiscing with the saws in
my shed now, but actually I want some other methods to test them
without logs. You may laugh at me but I have been thinking of a
homemade unit for my saws, appreciate your information about
some designs for it.

Has to be one of the better pipes I have seen built for a mac so
far. WTG
