Why are people against the wall?

Is it all just about the money?

I’m not against the wall, nor for it. I feel that the money it
would take to build it, and with the deficits have, it can be
       better spent elsewhere.

The Wall won’t keep anyone from coming to our country. The cost
is outrageous for something that won’t work. The money can be
used for positive helpful things such as caring for our Vets,
       health care and education.

So how do we keep illegals from coming to our country?

I wish we didn't have to pay for it but at what point do we
start worrying about security instead of cost?

The majority of people entering this country aren’t a security
risk, that’s not to say some bad elements don’t get in. I know
they do, but why not take the money that would be used on the
wall and revamp our current immigration system? It should take
10+ years for someone to apply, be vetted and a decision made,
or he’ll those already in the country who can show they have
       been (otherwise) good citizens.
I think the approach is coming from the wrong angle, and Trump
has created a fear that doesn’t really exist instead of
       addressing other issues/solutions.

The majority of people are not a security risk? How do we know
that? Does that even make sense to you? Why do we have customs
       at airports?
Did you know that drug dealers pay people to cross the border
and distract the border patrol so they can bring the drugs on
       another route?

It’s not a far jump when you realize the number of people here
already (illegally) who are not criminals (otherwise). Again,
notice I acknowledge that there are some bad eggs. I’m not
       denying that.
It would also be easier to sort out the bad eggs, at the border,
when we make it easier for the good eggs, to get in. If the
process to get in is easier and more streamlined those who are
no risk would have no reason to try and enter the country
       illegally.

We know that because a majority of people, in general, are not
security risk. A majority of natural born US citizens are not
security risks. We still have home grown security risks.
We have US Customs at ports of entry to check for stop illegal
products from entering the country. A small number of US
citizens attempt to bring in products daily, anything from
       medication to furniture.
People have been used as decoys from the beginning of time. It’s
       not a new trick.
History has taught us that it is a dangerous situation for a
population to blame a group of people for its problems. It is
also a dangerous situation for the general population when a
leader singles out a group as the source of a country’s
problems. A very simple solution to a complex problem rarely
       works.

it's expensive, it won't work, and us border towns don't want to
       deal with it.
