Apparently, Palace operates Raging Waters [Wet 'n Wild] Sydney. They also operate the Cartoon Network Hotel. #Post#: 1945-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: Mrceagle Date: January 29, 2020, 8:15 am --------------------------------------------------------- I never really got why they opted to have Palace operate the Wet n.Wild Sydney. Maybe they feel it's mostly self-sufficient and they don't end the higher-end management. Sadly Palace is a very lazy operator. While LC has done reasonably well mostly due to the dedication Jerry has as a GM. Story land has only seen a coupe additions and Water Country has seen 1 addition in a decade. #Post#: 1954-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: Pineracer Date: January 29, 2020, 10:50 am --------------------------------------------------------- Water Parks, I'm not surprised they wouldn't add something new every year, maybe 2-3 a decade (Unless they were really gunning for something huge like that slide wheel, then I'd see why only the 1 to save for that). Besides, most of them are FEC based (even Castle Park in California is more of a FEC like ZDT's in Texas). Kennywood is definitely the Flagship (as it was before the acquisition) with 2020 seeming to be the first off year since 2015 (sort of. 2015 was a 4D theater and 2020 is Steelers Country pt. 2) #Post#: 1967-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: Mrceagle Date: January 30, 2020, 12:39 am --------------------------------------------------------- Except their last addition wasn't terribly big its was aDr Von Dark Mini tantrum clone. in the over 10 years Water country has done nothing in New England every other water park or park with attached water park has expanded their offerings. in fact, just about every stand along park has expanded more than once. But despite this lack of expansion, they are still the largest waterpark in New England. #Post#: 1972-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: depotrat Date: January 30, 2020, 9:29 am --------------------------------------------------------- ^And they continue to draw good crowds all summer. Why add if you are selling tickets without the expense? Clearly they have determined that any increase in gate that comes with new attractions won't be enough to offset the cost of the attraction. No ROI = no new attractions. It is actually good business. If the gate diminishes too much they will have to react but so far that does not seem to be the case. #Post#: 1977-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: Mrceagle Date: January 31, 2020, 11:01 am --------------------------------------------------------- I get your argument, and I'm not going today your wrong. but if that's the case then why to parks like Clark's, Santa's Village and Whales tale make additions. They are in a tourist area with built-in marketing and draw. Your saying Palace is being smart. in the years where palace only added 1 attraction to Water Country, they added 2 to Story land. A Splash battle that required the removal of half another attraction and a wood coaster. They have also rethemed an attraction So Palace is doing the right thing. So then are the other parks, not making good business choices? Santa's Village makes a capital improvement or addition every year. Their additions have been every 2-3 years. A tubing hill and a spinning coaster. 2 water park expansions. Whales take has added to eh water park every 2-3 years. Clark's has closed an attraction replaced it with a shooting gallery and added a water coaster bought off of Six Gun City. None of these parks are setting attendance records they expand within their means. before being bought Story land added an attraction pretty much every other year. Water country every 3-5 years. So is this really just good business or are they simply funneling the profits for water country to bigger additions at parks like Kennywood? #Post#: 1979-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: Pineracer Date: January 31, 2020, 11:53 am ---------------------------------------------------------
So is this really just good business or are they simply funneling the profits for water country to bigger additions at parks like Kennywood?
Steel Curtain is a prototype. Kennywood also has nowhere to go (road/parking lot on one side, cliffs on 2 [one leads to a rail line], and housing on the 4th). The only areas I feel would be is in front of Exterminator (splash boats, whip) and maybe a tower ride (star flyer more likely as they lost a drop tower once) in the final turn. I'd say Auto Race and the rapids could be next. Anything else would sacrifice pavilions, backstage, and residential (the latter would probably only work with Exterminator's removal). However, looking at Kennywood on maps, I'm wondering how long an out and back coaster, whose station is between Black Widow and Exterminator, that excluding the lift and break run (maybe a helix) paralleling the Allegheny Passage trail to the Rankin Bridge would steal Steel Dragon's length record. Not saying it would happen-because it is almost certain it won't but for science. #Post#: 1984-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: Mrceagle Date: January 31, 2020, 9:47 pm --------------------------------------------------------- Good info though I think you missed my point in that line. With Steel Curtain in place hopefully, they can lay low for a bit and let other parks spend some money. But if you look at the last few years the focus has been on the amusement parks and not on the waterparks. #Post#: 1987-------------------------------------------------- Re: The Never Ending Pointless Thread By: Pineracer Date: February 1, 2020, 12:40 pm --------------------------------------------------------- That was just a what if, and also very long term (12-20 years) if it were to actually happen. ***************************************************** (DIR) Previous Page (DIR) Next Page
